ONCE MORE INTO THE BREACH?

Once upon a time. I had a blog.  knitsridiculous.blogspot.com  But time passed and it fell silent.  Life got in the way and I lost interest. In all truth, I was not very dedicated to begin with.

However as I approach my 60th birthday and as the possibility of retirement looms,  I thought I might like to give it another try.  Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your point of view, after about 6 years and a number of email address incarnations, I can't access the old blog.  What to do?  Why link it and start all over of course!

Since my old blogging days, Ravelry has taken over the knitting universe and now Nimblestix is up in Beta and wool and other fibers far more readily available just about everywhere you look.  Online indie dyers abound.  Spindles, spinning wheels, roving, locks, fleeces are all so easy to acquire.

When I was blogging years ago,  I had just learned to spin on a spindle (although I have not touched a spindle in ages and have no desire to in the near future).  Then I learned to spin on a wheel and now I own 2 wheels that I will introduce as I go along.

Now blogs are written to be read I suppose but I am not so naive as to think that a blog by an ageing, knitting, grandmother would become a regular event  that people the world over would await with baited breath.  But I do want to put my thoughts and adventures in knitting and spinning out there in hopes that I might inspire someone to try knitting or spinning or to start a challenging pattern or to try to do something differently or perhaps think outside the box.

I hope to share what I know and what I learn and what interests me.  I will try to link patterns that I have knit or would like to knit.  I will try to link instructional videos that have or will help me as I go forward.  Most of all I want to show that even at my age, at this time in life, learning is possible, ongoing and ever present.

When I turned 50, I made it a year of learning.  I wanted to learn something new, many times over and I did.  I taught myself how to knit 2 socks on 2 circs, I learned to knit continental style (even though I prefer to knit English, lever style - Oh maybe I can make a video of me knitting  and post it here). I tried a number of new things that year like double knitting and fair isle knitting among other things.

So in this upcoming year, between the age of 60 and 61, I want to learn as much as I can.  I want to try new techniques in knitting and spinning, spend more time and invest more of myself in my passion for fibre and try to chronicle it here in the tales of The Solitary Knitter.
